Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his regret that the England team did not receive greater support from the Wembley spectators during their commanding friendly win against Wales on Thursday night.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his team showcase their winning momentum, with strikes from Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter effectively ending the game. However, he was not content with the mood at the iconic venue.
“With one and a half training days to get ready against a well-trained team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the additional goals. The stadium was silent. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you deliver in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s regrettable because the squad warranted better encouragement today.”
“I stand by this statement. We cannot do more than leading three goals up in a derby. I would have wished for a greater backing in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much backing for the opposition. It might have aided us to recharge, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Display
Apart from risking a fight with fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by leaving out Bellingham and Phil Foden from his team selection. But the move was validated by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the No 10 position and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel said. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his place.”
Bellamy Seeks Lessons from Defeat
Craig Bellamy hopes that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a crucial qualifying match on Monday, take lessons from their poor performance in the opening period.
“This is why I scheduled this game,” Bellamy commented. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? Today gives me motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was substituted at half-time after hitting a post and will be a doubt when the national team play their next opponents in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
